How to Make Scalloped Potatoes and Ham

Scalloped potatoes and ham is a great way to use up leftover ham and really help stretch the grocery budget. You can be adventurous and use other types of meats such as smoked sausage.

This recipe was originally found on my blog at.

This recipe is so easy to make. You will need:
2 teaspoons butter
2 pounds sliced potatoes
salt and pepper
6 to 8 ounces ham
8 ounces of shredded cheese like Gruyere, or Jarlsberg
1 1/2 cups heavy cream (heavy cream is full-fat milk)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 9 by 13-inch baking dish. Add a layer of sliced potatoes, and then lightly season the potatoes with salt and pepper. Add some of the ham pieces, and a light sprinkling of cheese. Repeat the layers until you run out of potatoes. Pour the heavy cream into the dish, make sure the top layer of the potatoes are covered. You may need to add more cream than listed. Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown. Serve immediately.

3/8 inch slice? They look a little thinner than that. Also, I don't think the Oxo Good Grips V-Blade Mandoline Slicer will cut that thick. Max is 1/4 inch. Maybe you used 1/8 inch slice?

Well, I have never seen scalloped potatoes done that way. We normally only have good luck with them if we use a bechamel sauce in the build. Now I can see that it would not be needed. As a great fan of scalloped potatoes I will have to give this a try! Thanks!
